PRONYR TV

Context and problem

The starting point

I joined PRONYR TV in May 2022 while the platform was still under development. I worked primarily on the mobile app and frontend and helped build the product before launch, through production release, and during its first stage of evolution.

My responsibility

Product, architecture, and execution

Early on, I developed web and mobile features, fixed production issues, and built new capabilities for real users. My contributions included configurable notifications, the initial shorts experience, in-content chat, and device management.

As my responsibility grew, I began leading a three-person team. I defined the architecture, planned the work, assigned tasks, and contributed directly to end-to-end service implementation, especially the new payment microservice.

01 / payments

Primary contribution: payment microservice

I led the planning, architecture, and development of the new service with a team of two developers. I also contributed directly to its backend, administration, and payment flows.

The service replaced payment flows in the monolith and continues to operate reliably in production. It now needs only occasional intervention when a processor updates its API or changes integration requirements.

  • Integration with Stripe and Strickly.
  • Processor selection based on business rules.
  • Processor configuration through a dedicated admin interface.

02 / subscriptions

Friends subscription plan

I designed the friends plan’s flows, including member onboarding and removal, upgrades, downgrades, and the billing changes associated with each transition. The flow coordinated the plan owner, associated members, usage limits, and final subscription state.

03 / product

Capabilities I built before taking on technical leadership

  • Content experience: initial implementation of vertical short-form video playback, play/pause controls tied to scroll position, and contributions to the mobile player.
  • Notifications: configurable in-app and push notifications through Firebase, segmented by user groups and managed from the admin panel.
  • Community: chat inside content and badges or indicators for different user types.
  • Security and devices: device registration and identification, device-count limits, active-device lookup, and user-managed device removal.

04 / ecommerce

Additional unreleased initiative

I also led the development of an e-commerce solution for the PRONYR ecosystem, including an independent backend, integration with the mobile app, and the flows needed to run it as a separate product. The solution was completed but has not yet been released.

Key decisions

What needed to be clear

  1. Extract payments from the monolithic backend into an independent microservice.
  2. Abstract multiple processors and centralize rules for subscriptions, products, and shared plans.
  3. Maintain a consistent interface for the rest of PRONYR regardless of the processor used internally.

Outcome and impact

A system that is still running

PRONYR TV was where I moved from implementing individual capabilities to owning critical modules. Leading the payment service, coordinating a small team, and maintaining a production solution laid the foundation for my later work directing Quick Pay Services and TuTike.
